@Cousins Reading Club
The Cousins Reading Club at Tekarshong Bumthang observed Global Handwashing Day. The eldest of the cousins, Ms. Dechen has been helping younger cousins since September 2020 with their academic life. She has been running the club by engaging school-going children to improve their reading and writing skills. Thirteen students ranging from class PP to 8, has been attending 3 days a week lessons at the village temple.
Parents and elder cousins have been assisting Ms. Dechen and children at the club to cope with their academic sessions. Support from family and friends of cousins has also been instrumental in helping set up the club. They also enjoy occasional treats from cousins with Netflix, Disney+ & Pizza combo, and others.
The cousins group working under the informal name ‘Cousins Foundation Bhutan’ is aimed at setting up a conducive learning environment for little ones in the village. In the coming months, there are plans to set up online communication with educationists within Bhutan and abroad for kids to improve their communication skills. The club is expected to run as a community center for fostering community vitality by enhancing communications among the younger generation at the village and elder cousins living in other parts of the world.
