Tekarshong village in Bumthang (Bhutan) is located 2 km uphill of Bathpalathang domestic airport. It is a close-knit community of around 20 households. In the recent past, when schools across Bhutan were closed due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, a group of cousins living outside the village has started planning to set up a learning place of younger cousins. An informal group under the banner of 'Cousins Foundation Bhutan' since Sept. 2020 has successfully started a reading corner at the village temple.
Children were lucky to have one of their elder cousins Ms Dechen Lhaden as a tutor, a trained teacher who recently graduated from one of the teaching colleges in Bhutan. Since 01 Sept 2020 she was conducting reading lessons three days a week for 15 children. She also helps them with their online school lessons through the 'Wechat' group and during the reading lessons.
Sherab - the youngest member at the reading corner. She is enrolled as a pre-primary student at the beginning of the year 2020. However, her joy of going to school ended when schools across the country were closed due to the global pandemic of COVID-19.
Parents have been playing an instrumental role in starting of this project. A big thank you to every cousin and parents!
